Name: Luna Lovegood
Date of Birth: 3rd December 1980
Age: 16
Occupation: Student
Appearance-
Height: 5'2''
Hair: A dirty blonde colour, waist-length and wavy
Eyes: Grey
Overall Appearance: Luna has been said to give off an odd aura, with a floating walk and strange appearance. She has pale skin, a thin face, and faint eyebrows that give her a perpetually surprised look. She’s quite delicate looking, as if one gust of wind could blow her away, or she’s as if about to sail into the air and fly. She has large, round, grey eyes that are often hidden behind Spectrespecs; peculiar glasses that are supposed to make Wrackspurts visible. She likes to spruce up her boring Ravenclaw uniform with a Butterbeer cork necklace and Dirigible plum earrings, which she swears increase the wisdom of the wearer. She likes to keep her wand behind her ear for safe-keeping, and doesn’t wear shoes. The Nargles keep stealing them away.
Personality: Luna has a… unique personality, stemming from a peculiar upbringing and the trauma she suffered when she saw her mother die. She is soft and well-spoken, speaking with a vague dreaminess that is somehow enthralling. She tends to drift off in the middle of conversations that she doesn’t find interesting, interrupting the other person with a random observation. She has a knack for seeing the unseen, and has an unapologetic honesty that people can find unsettling.
Another thing people find unsettling, is her tendency to see things that they aren’t entirely sure are there. She sees imaginary (according to them) creatures that her father raised her to believe in, like Nargles, Wrackspurts and Freshwater Plimpies. Despite doubt and their bullying, Luna believes completely in the existence of the unseen, displaying her loyalty and strength of mind.
Luna is incredibly loyal, to her father and the few friends she has. Because she’s barely ever had any friends, she treasures the few she has, and will do anything for them. She has a natural intelligence and curiosity, leading to her placement in the House of Eagles.
Likes: Luna likes her friends, drawing and painting, and reading. She likes spending time with Dumbledore’s Army, as it’s the first time she’s had a proper group of friends. She likes spending time with the Thestrals outside, and any time someone believes her.
Dislikes: Luna dislikes anyone insulting the Quibbler, and therefore her father. She dislikes bullies, although she prefers to ignore them than confront them head-on.
Strengths: Luna’s extremely gifted magically, and has a talent for Charms. She’s good at art, and likes to enchant her paintings to subtly move. She has a natural intelligence and curiosity, leading to her placement in Ravenclaw. She has a talent for comforting people, and is extremely empathic.
Weaknesses: Luna had difficulty telling reality from fiction, and can be hard to make friends with, due to her tendency to drift off. Her blunt honesty can come across as rude and unsociable, and her dislike for confrontation can be frustrating.
History: Luna was 9 when her mother perished in a cauldron accident, leading to her being raised solely by her father, Xenophilius Lovegood. He ran the Quibbler, a magazine notorious for its ridiculous articles and made-up stories. He raised her on stories of unseen creatures, causing her to be the receiver of ridicule and bullying when she entered Hogwarts. She was given the nickname ‘Loony Lovegood’ by her peers and had a miserable first three years of school.
In Luna’s fourth year, she met and befriended Harry, Hermione, Ron and Neville, later joining Dumbledore’s Army. She worked hard and thrived in the company of friends, leading her to become much more outgoing and comfortable in her own skin. She used her connection with the Quibbler to get Harry’s interview published, demonstrating again and again her loyalty and belief in him. She broke into the Ministry with Harry, holding her own against adult Death Eaters, and came out relatively unscathed. Her bond with Harry strengthened when she comforted him after the death of his Godfather.
In Luna’s fifth year, she continued to be a valuable friend to the Trio, Neville and Ginny, attending Slughorn’s Christmas Party with Harry. She temporarily became Quidditch commentator, with interesting results. At the end of the school year, the castle came under attack from Death Eaters, and Luna valiantly defending it with the other members of the DA.
