Midnight.
Sydney loved midnight, it was such an amazing time of night, or morning, or whatever. Either way, it was lovely, the grounds were absolutely beautiful, snowflakes fell lazily through the air, covering the ground in a light layer of white. The lake was no longer frozen, but it was ice cold and refreshing.
The Empty Tower opened up to the night sky, letting in the crisp air. Currently Sydney sat down on the tower floor, leaning against the railing, snowflakes were dotting her dark hair and occasionally one would land on her eyelashes, making her blink it out. She was wrapped in a dark green cloak, shielding herself from the cold, but something was off about her tonight.
Sydney didn't have her sketchpad, the sketchpad she took everywhere with her, no, tonight, she brought nothing up here, she just wanted to get away from everyone, all the drama, Umbridge, especially Filch.
And you miss Dimitri A voice nagged at the back of her mind.
Yes, fine, she missed Dimitri, she hadn't been able to see much of him, after she had been poisoned, it had become kind of hard to catch him anywhere, then they had their date. Sydney giggled at the memory, technically it was their first official date, and it had been fun, they ate candy and drank butterbeer and generally caused a ruckus in town, annoying the shop owners and almost getting themselves kicked out of town.
Then it was Christmas break, Dimitri left and Sydney stayed, and ever since classes resumed, she just couldn't find him anywhere, he was never in their normal spots anymore.
Maybe it was NEWTs, maybe not, but Sydney missed Dimitri, and so she came up here, the most important place in their history, Sydney didn't know what it was, but she knew- she just KNEW, that she needed to get in all the time with Dimitri she could, because something very, very big was going to happen.
She was completely silent, she wasn't singing, instead she was listening to the symphony of the night, some would argue that there wasn't one, (like some bone-headed Gryffindors she had met) but there was. And if you listened close enough you could hear it.
The wind whistling ahead paired perfectly with the soft orchestra of the lake swishing and sloshing. Sydney closed her eyes and just listened. The trees humming to one another, a wistful tune that penetrated Sydney to the core, the grass was running, here, there, striking up a boastful, proud song.
Some say that a man lived in the moon, keeping watch over everything natural and staying the balance of nature. And as Sydney listened, she could hear the moon singing and soft melody, sweet and beautiful.
Combined with everything else, it was absolute unique, beautiful, and unlike anything Sydney had even dreamed of before.
Opening her eyes, she smiled, and sang along with the moon.
